Fedor Pchelkin a9a7672fc1 Bluetooth: L2CAP: handle NULL sock pointer in l2cap_sock_alloc
commit 5f397409f8 upstream.

A NULL sock pointer is passed into l2cap_sock_alloc() when it is called
from l2cap_sock_new_connection_cb() and the error handling paths should
also be aware of it.

Seemingly a more elegant solution would be to swap bt_sock_alloc() and
l2cap_chan_create() calls since they are not interdependent to that moment
but then l2cap_chan_create() adds the soon to be deallocated and still
dummy-initialized channel to the global list accessible by many L2CAP
paths. The channel would be removed from the list in short period of time
but be a bit more straight-forward here and just check for NULL instead of
changing the order of function calls.

Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with SVACE static
analysis tool.

Ignat Korchagin f6ad641646 Bluetooth: L2CAP: do not leave dangling sk pointer on error in l2cap_sock_create()
[ Upstream commit 7c4f78cdb8 ]

bt_sock_alloc() allocates the sk object and attaches it to the provided
sock object. On error l2cap_sock_alloc() frees the sk object, but the
dangling pointer is still attached to the sock object, which may create
use-after-free in other code.

Andrej Shadura 37fb0fd3fb Bluetooth: Fix type of len in rfcomm_sock_getsockopt{,_old}()
commit 5fe6caa62b upstream.

Commit 9bf4e919cc worked around an issue introduced after an innocuous
optimisation change in LLVM main:

> len is defined as an 'int' because it is assigned from
> '__user int *optlen'. However, it is clamped against the result of
> sizeof(), which has a type of 'size_t' ('unsigned long' for 64-bit
> platforms). This is done with min_t() because min() requires compatible
> types, which results in both len and the result of sizeof() being casted
> to 'unsigned int', meaning len changes signs and the result of sizeof()
> is truncated. From there, len is passed to copy_to_user(), which has a
> third parameter type of 'unsigned long', so it is widened and changes
> signs again. This excessive casting in combination with the KCSAN
> instrumentation causes LLVM to fail to eliminate the __bad_copy_from()
> call, failing the build.

The same issue occurs in rfcomm in functions rfcomm_sock_getsockopt and
rfcomm_sock_getsockopt_old.

Change the type of len to size_t in both rfcomm_sock_getsockopt and
rfcomm_sock_getsockopt_old and replace min_t() with min().

[ Upstream commit 116523c8fa ]

Change that introduced the use of __check_timeout did not account for
link types properly, it always assumes ACL_LINK is used thus causing
hdev->acl_last_tx to be used even in case of LE_LINK and then again
uses ACL_LINK with hci_link_tx_to.

To fix this __check_timeout now takes the link type as parameter and
then procedure to use the right last_tx based on the link type and pass
it to hci_link_tx_to.

[ Upstream commit 0d151a1037 ]

syzbot is reporting that calling hci_release_dev() from hci_error_reset()
due to hci_dev_put() from hci_error_reset() can cause deadlock at
destroy_workqueue(), for hci_error_reset() is called from
hdev->req_workqueue which destroy_workqueue() needs to flush.

We need to make sure that hdev->{rx_work,cmd_work,tx_work} which are
queued into hdev->workqueue and hdev->{power_on,error_reset} which are
queued into hdev->req_workqueue are no longer running by the moment

       destroy_workqueue(hdev->workqueue);
       destroy_workqueue(hdev->req_workqueue);

are called from hci_release_dev().

Call cancel_work_sync() on these work items from hci_unregister_dev()
as soon as hdev->list is removed from hci_dev_list.

There is a race condition between l2cap_chan_timeout() and

Duoming Zhou 3212afd00e Bluetooth: Fix use-after-free bugs caused by sco_sock_timeout
[ Upstream commit 483bc08181 ]

When the sco connection is established and then, the sco socket
is releasing, timeout_work will be scheduled to judge whether
the sco disconnection is timeout. The sock will be deallocated
later, but it is dereferenced again in sco_sock_timeout. As a
result, the use-after-free bugs will happen. The root cause is
shown below:

    Cleanup Thread               |      Worker Thread
sco_sock_release                 |
  sco_sock_close                 |

                                 |    sock_hold(sk) //USE

Nathan Chancellor 9c25b42905 Bluetooth: Fix type of len in {l2cap,sco}_sock_getsockopt_old()
commit 9bf4e919cc upstream.

After an innocuous optimization change in LLVM main (19.0.0), x86_64
allmodconfig (which enables CONFIG_KCSAN / -fsanitize=thread) fails to
build due to the checks in check_copy_size():

    244 |                         __bad_copy_from();
        |                         ^

The same exact error occurs in l2cap_sock.c. The copy_to_user()
statements that are failing come from l2cap_sock_getsockopt_old() and
sco_sock_getsockopt_old(). This does not occur with GCC with or without
KCSAN or Clang without KCSAN enabled.

len is defined as an 'int' because it is assigned from
'__user int *optlen'.

The official recommendation from LLVM developers is to consistently use
long types for all size variables to avoid the unnecessary casting in
the first place. Change the type of len to size_t in both
l2cap_sock_getsockopt_old() and sco_sock_getsockopt_old(). This clears
up the error while allowing min_t() to be replaced with min(), resulting
in simpler code with no casts and fewer implicit conversions. While len
is a different type than optlen now, it should result in no functional
change because the result of sizeof() will clamp all values of optlen in
the same manner as before.

Bastien Nocera f5450973eb Bluetooth: Fix TOCTOU in HCI debugfs implementation
commit 7835fcfd13 upstream.

struct hci_dev members conn_info_max_age, conn_info_min_age,
le_conn_max_interval, le_conn_min_interval, le_adv_max_interval,
and le_adv_min_interval can be modified from the HCI core code, as well
through debugfs.

The debugfs implementation, that's only available to privileged users,
will check for boundaries, making sure that the minimum value being set
is strictly above the maximum value that already exists, and vice-versa.

However, as both minimum and maximum values can be changed concurrently
to us modifying them, we need to make sure that the value we check is
the value we end up using.

For example, with ->conn_info_max_age set to 10, conn_info_min_age_set()
gets called from vfs handlers to set conn_info_min_age to 8.

In conn_info_min_age_set(), this goes through:
	if (val == 0 || val > hdev->conn_info_max_age)
		return -EINVAL;

Concurrently, conn_info_max_age_set() gets called to set to set the
conn_info_max_age to 7:
	if (val == 0 || val > hdev->conn_info_max_age)
		return -EINVAL;
That check will also pass because we used the old value (10) for
conn_info_max_age.

After those checks that both passed, the struct hci_dev access
is mutex-locked, disabling concurrent access, but that does not matter
because the invalid value checks both passed, and we'll end up with
conn_info_min_age = 8 and conn_info_max_age = 7

To fix this problem, we need to lock the structure access before so the
check and assignment are not interrupted.

This fix was originally devised by the BassCheck[1] team, and
considered the problem to be an atomicity one. This isn't the case as
there aren't any concerns about the variable changing while we check it,
but rather after we check it parallel to another change.

This patch fixes CVE-2024-24858 and CVE-2024-24857.

Hui Wang 5c8b927293 Bluetooth: hci_event: set the conn encrypted before conn establishes
commit c569242cd4 upstream.

We have a BT headset (Lenovo Thinkplus XT99), the pairing and
connecting has no problem, once this headset is paired, bluez will
remember this device and will auto re-connect it whenever the device
is powered on. The auto re-connecting works well with Windows and
Android, but with Linux, it always fails. Through debugging, we found
at the rfcomm connection stage, the bluetooth stack reports
"Connection refused - security block (0x0003)".

For this device, the re-connecting negotiation process is different
from other BT headsets, it sends the Link_KEY_REQUEST command before
the CONNECT_REQUEST completes, and it doesn't send ENCRYPT_CHANGE
command during the negotiation. When the device sends the "connect
complete" to hci, the ev->encr_mode is 1.

So here in the conn_complete_evt(), if ev->encr_mode is 1, link type
is ACL and HCI_CONN_ENCRYPT is not set, we set HCI_CONN_ENCRYPT to
this conn, and update conn->enc_key_size accordingly.

After this change, this BT headset could re-connect with Linux
successfully. This is the btmon log after applying the patch, after
receiving the "Connect Complete" with "Encryption: Enabled", will send
the command to read encryption key size:

Jonas Dreßler f6177a1723 Bluetooth: Remove superfluous call to hci_conn_check_pending()
[ Upstream commit 78e3639fc8 ]

The "pending connections" feature was originally introduced with commit
4c67bc74f0 ("[Bluetooth] Support concurrent connect requests") and
6bd5741612 ("[Bluetooth] Handling pending connect attempts after
inquiry") to handle controllers supporting only a single connection request
at a time. Later things were extended to also cancel ongoing inquiries on
connect() with commit 89e65975fe ("Bluetooth: Cancel Inquiry before
Create Connection").

With commit a9de924806 ("[Bluetooth] Switch from OGF+OCF to using only
opcodes"), hci_conn_check_pending() was introduced as a helper to
consolidate a few places where we check for pending connections (indicated
by the BT_CONNECT2 flag) and then try to connect.

This refactoring commit also snuck in two more calls to
hci_conn_check_pending():

- One is in the failure callback of hci_cs_inquiry(), this one probably
makes sense: If we send an "HCI Inquiry" command and then immediately
after a "Create Connection" command, the "Create Connection" command might
fail before the "HCI Inquiry" command, and then we want to retry the
"Create Connection" on failure of the "HCI Inquiry".

- The other added call to hci_conn_check_pending() is in the event handler
for the "Remote Name" event, this seems unrelated and is possibly a
copy-paste error, so remove that one.

Yuxuan Hu 5f369efd9d Bluetooth: rfcomm: Fix null-ptr-deref in rfcomm_check_security
[ Upstream commit 2535b848fa ]

During our fuzz testing of the connection and disconnection process at the
RFCOMM layer, we discovered this bug. By comparing the packets from a
normal connection and disconnection process with the testcase that
triggered a KASAN report. We analyzed the cause of this bug as follows:

1. In the packets captured during a normal connection, the host sends a
`Read Encryption Key Size` type of `HCI_CMD` packet
(Command Opcode: 0x1408) to the controller to inquire the length of
encryption key.After receiving this packet, the controller immediately
replies with a Command Completepacket (Event Code: 0x0e) to return the
Encryption Key Size.

2. In our fuzz test case, the timing of the controller's response to this
packet was delayed to an unexpected point: after the RFCOMM and L2CAP
layers had disconnected but before the HCI layer had disconnected.

3. After receiving the Encryption Key Size Response at the time described
in point 2, the host still called the rfcomm_check_security function.
However, by this time `struct l2cap_conn *conn = l2cap_pi(sk)->chan->conn;`
had already been released, and when the function executed
`return hci_conn_security(conn->hcon, d->sec_level, auth_type, d->out);`,
specifically when accessing `conn->hcon`, a null-ptr-deref error occurred.

To fix this bug, check if `sk->sk_state` is BT_CLOSED before calling
rfcomm_recv_frame in rfcomm_process_rx.

So only validate the max value connection interval to pass the Test

ZhengHan Wang 3c4236f1b2 Bluetooth: Fix double free in hci_conn_cleanup
[ Upstream commit a85fb91e3d ]

syzbot reports a slab use-after-free in hci_conn_hash_flush [1].
After releasing an object using hci_conn_del_sysfs in the
hci_conn_cleanup function, releasing the same object again
using the hci_dev_put and hci_conn_put functions causes a double free.
Here's a simplified flow:

hci_conn_del_sysfs:
  hci_dev_put
    put_device
      kobject_put
        kref_put
          kobject_release
            kobject_cleanup
              kfree_const
                kfree(name)

hci_dev_put:
  ...
    kfree(name)

hci_conn_put:
  put_device
    ...
      kfree(name)

This patch drop the hci_dev_put and hci_conn_put function
call in hci_conn_cleanup function, because the object is
freed in hci_conn_del_sysfs function.

This patch also fixes the refcounting in hci_conn_add_sysfs() and
hci_conn_del_sysfs() to take into account device_add() failures.

This fixes CVE-2023-28464.

Kees Cook b849a38e18 Bluetooth: hci_sock: Correctly bounds check and pad HCI_MON_NEW_INDEX name
commit cb3871b1cd upstream.

The code pattern of memcpy(dst, src, strlen(src)) is almost always
wrong. In this case it is wrong because it leaves memory uninitialized
if it is less than sizeof(ni->name), and overflows ni->name when longer.

Normally strtomem_pad() could be used here, but since ni->name is a
trailing array in struct hci_mon_new_index, compilers that don't support
-fstrict-flex-arrays=3 can't tell how large this array is via
__builtin_object_size(). Instead, open-code the helper and use sizeof()
since it will work correctly.

Additionally mark ni->name as __nonstring since it appears to not be a
%NUL terminated C string.

Ying Hsu 16e36cde27 Bluetooth: Avoid redundant authentication
[ Upstream commit 1d8e801422 ]

While executing the Android 13 CTS Verifier Secure Server test on a
ChromeOS device, it was observed that the Bluetooth host initiates
authentication for an RFCOMM connection after SSP completes.
When this happens, some Intel Bluetooth controllers, like AC9560, would
disconnect with "Connection Rejected due to Security Reasons (0x0e)".

Historically, BlueZ did not mandate this authentication while an
authenticated combination key was already in use for the connection.
This behavior was changed since commit 7b5a9241b7
("Bluetooth: Introduce requirements for security level 4").
So, this patch addresses the aforementioned disconnection issue by

Arnd Bergmann ec8f0d0fe6 Bluetooth: avoid memcmp() out of bounds warning
commit 9d1a3c7474 upstream.

bacmp() is a wrapper around memcpy(), which contain compile-time
checks for buffer overflow. Since the hci_conn_request_evt() also calls
bt_dev_dbg() with an implicit NULL pointer check, the compiler is now
aware of a case where 'hdev' is NULL and treats this as meaning that
zero bytes are available:

In file included from net/bluetooth/hci_event.c:32:
In function 'bacmp',
    inlined from 'hci_conn_request_evt' at net/bluetooth/hci_event.c:3276:7:
include/net/bluetooth/bluetooth.h:364:16: error: 'memcmp' specified bound 6 exceeds source size 0 [-Werror=stringop-overread]
  364 |         return memcmp(ba1, ba2, sizeof(bdaddr_t));
      |                ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Add another NULL pointer check before the bacmp() to ensure the compiler
understands the code flow enough to not warn about it. Since the patch
that introduced the warning is marked for stable backports, this one
should also go that way to avoid introducing build regressions.

Lee, Chun-Yi 97ce8eca07 Bluetooth: Reject connection with the device which has same BD_ADDR
commit 1ffc6f8cc3 upstream.

This change is used to relieve CVE-2020-26555. The description of
the CVE:

Bluetooth legacy BR/EDR PIN code pairing in Bluetooth Core Specification
1.0B through 5.2 may permit an unauthenticated nearby device to spoof
the BD_ADDR of the peer device to complete pairing without knowledge
of the PIN. [1]

The detail of this attack is in IEEE paper:
BlueMirror: Reflections on Bluetooth Pairing and Provisioning Protocols
[2]

It's a reflection attack. The paper mentioned that attacker can induce
the attacked target to generate null link key (zero key) without PIN
code. In BR/EDR, the key generation is actually handled in the controller
which is below HCI.

A condition of this attack is that attacker should change the
BR_ADDR of his hacking device (Host B) to equal to the BR_ADDR with
the target device being attacked (Host A).

Thus, we reject the connection with device which has same BD_ADDR
both on HCI_Create_Connection and HCI_Connection_Request to prevent
the attack. A similar implementation also shows in btstack project.

Sungwoo Kim a2da00d1ea Bluetooth: L2CAP: Fix use-after-free in l2cap_sock_ready_cb
commit 1728137b33 upstream.

l2cap_sock_release(sk) frees sk. However, sk's children are still alive
and point to the already free'd sk's address.
To fix this, l2cap_sock_release(sk) also cleans sk's children.

[ Upstream commit 75767213f3 ]

When receiving a connect response we should make sure that the DCID is
within the valid range and that we don't already have another channel
allocated for the same DCID.
Missing checks may violate the specification (BLUETOOTH CORE SPECIFICATION

Ying Hsu 0f841f8039 Bluetooth: Fix l2cap_disconnect_req deadlock
[ Upstream commit 02c5ea5246 ]

L2CAP assumes that the locks conn->chan_lock and chan->lock are
acquired in the order conn->chan_lock, chan->lock to avoid
potential deadlock.
For example, l2sock_shutdown acquires these locks in the order:
  mutex_lock(&conn->chan_lock)
  l2cap_chan_lock(chan)

However, l2cap_disconnect_req acquires chan->lock in
l2cap_get_chan_by_scid first and then acquires conn->chan_lock
before calling l2cap_chan_del. This means that these locks are
acquired in unexpected order, which leads to potential deadlock:
  l2cap_chan_lock(c)
  mutex_lock(&conn->chan_lock)

This patch releases chan->lock before acquiring the conn_chan_lock
to avoid the potential deadlock.

Ruihan Li e6183912ee bluetooth: Add cmd validity checks at the start of hci_sock_ioctl()
commit 000c2fa2c1 upstream.

Previously, channel open messages were always sent to monitors on the first
ioctl() call for unbound HCI sockets, even if the command and arguments
were completely invalid. This can leave an exploitable hole with the abuse
of invalid ioctl calls.

This commit hardens the ioctl processing logic by first checking if the
command is valid, and immediately returning with an ENOIOCTLCMD error code
if it is not. This ensures that ioctl calls with invalid commands are free
of side effects, and increases the difficulty of further exploitation by
forcing exploitation to find a way to pass a valid command first.

Ruihan Li 48cdcb40d5 bluetooth: Perform careful capability checks in hci_sock_ioctl()
commit 25c150ac10 upstream.

Previously, capability was checked using capable(), which verified that the
caller of the ioctl system call had the required capability. In addition,
the result of the check would be stored in the HCI_SOCK_TRUSTED flag,
making it persistent for the socket.

However, malicious programs can abuse this approach by deliberately sharing
an HCI socket with a privileged task. The HCI socket will be marked as
trusted when the privileged task occasionally makes an ioctl call.

This problem can be solved by using sk_capable() to check capability, which
ensures that not only the current task but also the socket opener has the
specified capability, thus reducing the risk of privilege escalation
through the previously identified vulnerability.

Min Li 8a99e6200c Bluetooth: Fix race condition in hidp_session_thread
commit c95930abd6 upstream.

There is a potential race condition in hidp_session_thread that may
lead to use-after-free. For instance, the timer is active while
hidp_del_timer is called in hidp_session_thread(). After hidp_session_put,
then 'session' will be freed, causing kernel panic when hidp_idle_timeout
is running.

The solution is to use del_timer_sync instead of del_timer.

Nguyen Dinh Phi 800a1c4c8a Bluetooth: hci_sock: purge socket queues in the destruct() callback
commit 709fca5000 upstream.

The receive path may take the socket right before hci_sock_release(),
but it may enqueue the packets to the socket queues after the call to
skb_queue_purge(), therefore the socket can be destroyed without clear
its queues completely.

Moving these skb_queue_purge() to the hci_sock_destruct() will fix this
issue, because nothing is referencing the socket at this point.
