Mukesh Ojha 84b42d5b5f leds: class: Protect brightness_show() with led_cdev->led_access mutex
[ Upstream commit 4ca7cd9387 ]

There is NULL pointer issue observed if from Process A where hid device
being added which results in adding a led_cdev addition and later a
another call to access of led_cdev attribute from Process B can result
in NULL pointer issue.

Use mutex led_cdev->led_access to protect access to led->cdev and its
attribute inside brightness_show() and max_brightness_show() and also
update the comment for mutex that it should be used to protect the led
class device fields.

Ilpo Järvinen 13d79c6489 leds: ss4200: Convert PCIBIOS_* return codes to errnos
commit ce068e8397 upstream.

ich7_lpc_probe() uses pci_read_config_dword() that returns PCIBIOS_*
codes. The error handling code assumes incorrectly it's a normal errno
and checks for < 0. The return code is returned from the probe function
as is but probe functions should return normal errnos.

Remove < 0 from the check and convert PCIBIOS_* returns code using
pcibios_err_to_errno() into normal errno before returning it.

Hans de Goede d1415125b7 leds: trigger: Unregister sysfs attributes before calling deactivate()
[ Upstream commit c0dc9adf94 ]

Triggers which have trigger specific sysfs attributes typically store
related data in trigger-data allocated by the activate() callback and
freed by the deactivate() callback.

Calling device_remove_groups() after calling deactivate() leaves a window
where the sysfs attributes show/store functions could be called after
deactivation and then operate on the just freed trigger-data.

Move the device_remove_groups() call to before deactivate() to close
this race window.

This also makes the deactivation path properly do things in reverse order
of the activation path which calls the activate() callback before calling
device_add_groups().

Uwe Kleine-König f6c3b7a4ce leds: pwm: Don't disable the PWM when the LED should be off
[ Upstream commit 76fe464c8e ]

Disabling a PWM (i.e. calling pwm_apply_state with .enabled = false)
gives no guarantees what the PWM output does. It might freeze where it
currently is, or go in a High-Z state or drive the active or inactive
state, it might even continue to toggle.

To ensure that the LED gets really disabled, don't disable the PWM even
when .duty_cycle is zero.

This fixes disabling a leds-pwm LED on i.MX28. The PWM on this SoC is
one of those that freezes its output on disable, so if you disable an
LED that is full on, it stays on. If you disable a LED with half
brightness it goes off in 50% of the cases and full on in the other 50%.

Randy Dunlap 026df12f3c leds: TI_LMU_COMMON: select REGMAP instead of depending on it
[ Upstream commit a61079efc8 ]

REGMAP is a hidden (not user visible) symbol. Users cannot set it
directly thru "make *config", so drivers should select it instead of
depending on it if they need it.

Consistently using "select" or "depends on" can also help reduce
Kconfig circular dependency issues.

Therefore, change the use of "depends on REGMAP" to "select REGMAP".

Hans de Goede ebf570042b leds: trigger: audio: Add an activate callback to ensure the initial brightness is set
[ Upstream commit 64f67b5240 ]

Some 2-in-1s with a detachable (USB) keyboard(dock) have mute-LEDs in
the speaker- and/or mic-mute keys on the keyboard.

Examples of this are the Lenovo Thinkpad10 tablet (with its USB kbd-dock)
and the HP x2 10 series.

The detachable nature of these keyboards means that the keyboard and
thus the mute LEDs may show up after the user (or userspace restoring
old mixer settings) has muted the speaker and/or mic.

Current LED-class devices with a default_trigger of "audio-mute" or
"audio-micmute" initialize the brightness member of led_classdev with
ledtrig_audio_get() before registering the LED.

This makes the software state after attaching the keyboard match the
actual audio mute state, e.g. cat /sys/class/leds/foo/brightness will
show the right value.

But before this commit nothing was actually calling the led_classdev's
brightness_set[_blocking] callback so the value returned by
ledtrig_audio_get() was never actually being sent to the hw, leading
to the mute LEDs staying in their default power-on state, after
attaching the keyboard, even if ledtrig_audio_get() returned a different
state.

This could be fixed by having the individual LED drivers call
brightness_set[_blocking] themselves after registering the LED,
but this really is something which should be done by a led-trigger
activate callback.

Add an activate callback for this, fixing the issue of the
mute LEDs being out of sync after (re)attaching the keyboard.

Greg Kroah-Hartman 5c463887ed Revert "leds: lp5523: fix a missing check of return value of lp55xx_read"
commit 8d1beda5f1 upstream.

This reverts commit 248b57015f.

Because of recent interactions with developers from @umn.edu, all
commits from them have been recently re-reviewed to ensure if they were
correct or not.

Upon review, this commit was found to be incorrect for the reasons
below, so it must be reverted. It will be fixed up "correctly" in a
later kernel change.

The original commit does not properly unwind if there is an error
condition so it needs to be reverted at this point in time.

This lockdep splat is reported after:
commit e918188611 ("locking: More accurate annotations for read_lock()")

To clarify:
 - read-locks are recursive only in interrupt context (when
   in_interrupt() returns true)
 - after acquiring host->lock in CPU1, another cpu (i.e. CPU2) may call
   write_lock(&trig->leddev_list_lock) that would be blocked by CPU0
   that holds trig->leddev_list_lock in read-mode
 - when CPU1 (ata_ac_complete()) tries to read-lock
   trig->leddev_list_lock, it would be blocked by the write-lock waiter
   on CPU2 (because we are not in interrupt context, so the read-lock is
   not recursive)
 - at this point if an interrupt happens on CPU0 and
   ata_bmdma_interrupt() is executed it will try to acquire host->lock,
   that is held by CPU1, that is currently blocked by CPU2, so:

   * CPU0 blocked by CPU1
   * CPU1 blocked by CPU2
   * CPU2 blocked by CPU0

     *** DEADLOCK ***

The deadlock scenario is better represented by the following schema
(thanks to Boqun Feng <boqun.feng@gmail.com> for the schema and the
detailed explanation of the deadlock condition):

 CPU 0:                          CPU 1:                        CPU 2:
 -----                           -----                         -----
 led_trigger_event():
   read_lock(&trig->leddev_list_lock);
 				<workqueue>
 				ata_hsm_qc_complete():
 				  spin_lock_irqsave(&host->lock);
 								write_lock(&trig->leddev_list_lock);
 				  ata_port_freeze():
 				    ata_do_link_abort():
 				      ata_qc_complete():
 					ledtrig_disk_activity():
 					  led_trigger_blink_oneshot():
 					    read_lock(&trig->leddev_list_lock);
 					    // ^ not in in_interrupt() context, so could get blocked by CPU 2
 <interrupt>
   ata_bmdma_interrupt():
     spin_lock_irqsave(&host->lock);

Fix by using read_lock_irqsave/irqrestore() in led_trigger_event(), so
that no interrupt can happen in between, preventing the deadlock
condition.

Apply the same change to led_trigger_blink_setup() as well, since the
same deadlock scenario can also happen in power_supply_update_bat_leds()
-> led_trigger_blink() -> led_trigger_blink_setup() (workqueue context),
and potentially prevent other similar usages.

Sometimes LED won't be turned off by LED_CORE_SUSPENDRESUME flag upon

led_set_brightness_nopm() uses schedule_work() to set LED brightness.
However, there's no guarantee that the scheduled work gets executed
because no one flushes the work.

So flush the scheduled work to make sure LED gets turned off.

Zahari Petkov 348a7ccdb9 leds: pca963x: Fix open-drain initialization
[ Upstream commit 697529091a ]

Before commit bb29b9cccd ("leds: pca963x: Add bindings to invert
polarity") Mode register 2 was initialized directly with either 0x01
or 0x05 for open-drain or totem pole (push-pull) configuration.

Afterwards, MODE2 initialization started using bitwise operations on
top of the default MODE2 register value (0x05). Using bitwise OR for
setting OUTDRV with 0x01 and 0x05 does not produce correct results.
When open-drain is used, instead of setting OUTDRV to 0, the driver
keeps it as 1:

Open-drain: 0x05 | 0x01 -> 0x05 (0b101 - incorrect)
Totem pole: 0x05 | 0x05 -> 0x05 (0b101 - correct but still wrong)

Now OUTDRV setting uses correct bitwise operations for initialization:

Open-drain: 0x05 & ~0x04 -> 0x01 (0b001 - correct)
Totem pole: 0x05 | 0x04 -> 0x05 (0b101 - correct)

Additional MODE2 register definitions are introduced now as well.

Jacek Anaszewski 5440678b5a leds: gpio: Fix uninitialized gpio label for fwnode based probe
commit 90a8e82d3c upstream.

When switching to using generic LED name composition mechanism via
devm_led_classdev_register_ext() API the part of code initializing
struct gpio_led's template name property was removed alongside.
It was however overlooked that the property was also passed to
devm_fwnode_get_gpiod_from_child() in place of "label" parameter,
which when set to NULL, results in gpio label being initialized to '?'.

It could be observed in debugfs and failed to properly identify
gpio association with LED consumer.

Fix this shortcoming by updating the GPIO label after the LED is
registered and its final name is known.

The NETDEV_CHANGENAME code is not "unneeded" like it is stated in commit

The event was accidentally misinterpreted equivalent to
NETDEV_UNREGISTER, but should be equivalent to NETDEV_REGISTER.

This was the case in the original code from the openwrt project.

Otherwise, you are unable to set netdev led triggers for (non-existent)
netdevices, which has to be renamed. This is the case, for example, for
ppp interfaces in openwrt.
