pwm: Changes for v3.16-rc1
The majority of these changes are cleanups and fixes across all drivers. Redundant error messages are removed and more PWM controllers set the .can_sleep flag to signal that they can't be used in atomic context. Support is added for the Broadcom Kona family of SoCs and the Intel LPSS driver can now probe PCI devices in addition to ACPI devices. Upon shut- down, the pwm-backlight driver will now power off the backlight. It also uses the new descriptor-based GPIO API for more concise GPIO handling. A large chunk of these changes also converts platforms to use the lookup mechanism rather than relying on the global number space to reference PWM devices. This is largely in preparation for more unification and cleanups in future patches. USB driver patches for 3.16-rc1
Here is the big USB driver pull request for 3.16-rc1. Nothing huge here, but lots of little things in the USB core, and in lots of drivers. Hopefully the USB power management will be work better now that it has been reworked to do per-port power control dynamically. There's also a raft of gadget driver updates and fixes, CONFIG_USB_DEBUG is finally gone now that everything has been converted over to the dynamic debug inteface, the last hold-out drivers were cleaned up and the config option removed. There were also other minor things all through the drivers/usb/ tree, the shortlog shows this pretty well. All have been in linux-next, including the very last patch, which came from linux-next to fix a build issue on some platforms. This contains a largeish cleanup series of the omap_l3_noc bus driver, cpuidle rework for Exynos, some reset driver conversions and a long branch of TI EDMA fixes and cleanups, with more to come next release. The TI EDMA cleanups is a shared branch with the dmaengine tree, with a handful of Davinci-specific fixes on top. tty/serial: at91: use mctrl_gpio helpers
On sam9x5, dedicated CTS (and RTS) pins are unusable together with the LCDC, the EMAC, or the MMC because they share the same line. Moreover, the USART controller doesn't handle DTR/DSR/DCD/RI signals, so we have to control them via GPIO. This patch permits to use GPIOs to control the CTS/RTS/DTR/DSR/DCD/RI signals. ARM: edma: Remove redundant/unused parameters from edma_soc_info
The following parameters are no longer needed by the edma driver since the information can be obtained from the IP's CCCFG register: n_channel, n_region, n_slot and n_tc. Remove the n_cc as well since in this context it has no meaning. We have separate edma_soc_info struct/eDMA3_CC instance so this member does not make any sense (and the driver no longer uses it). dmaengine: edma: Make reading the position of active channels work
As Joel pointed out, edma_read_position() uses memcpy_fromio() to read the parameter ram. That's not synchronized with the internal update as it does a byte by byte copy. We need to do a 32bit read to get a consistent value. Further reading destination and source is pointless. In DEV_TO_MEM transfers we are only interested in the destination, in MEM_TO_DEV we care about the source. In MEM_TO_MEM it really does not matter which one you read. Simple solution: Remove the pointers, select dest/source via a bool and return the read value. Remove the export of this function while at it. The only potential user is the dmaengine and that's always builtin. NFC: ST21NFCA: Add driver for STMicroelectronics ST21NFCA NFC Chip
Add driver for STMicroelectronics ST21NFCA NFC controller. ST21NFCA is using HCI protocol, shdlc as LLC layer & I2C as communication protocol. Adding support for Reader/Writer mode with Tag type 1/2/3/4 A & B. It is using proprietary gate 15 for ISO14443-3 such as type 1 & type 2 tags. It is using proprietary gate 14 for type F tags. ST21NFCA_DEVICE_MGNT_GATE gives access to proprietary CLF configuration. Standard gate for ISO14443-4 A (13) & B (11) are also used. ST21NFCA specific mecanism: One particular point to notice for the data handling is that frame does not contain any length value. Therefore the i2c part of this driver is managing the reception with a read length sequence until the end of frame (0x7e) is reached. In order to avoid conflict between sof & eof a mecanism called byte stuffing concist of an escape byte (0x7d) insertion before special byte (0x7e, 0x7d). The special byte is then xored with 0x20. In this driver, When data are available in the CLF, the interrupt gpio is driven to active state and triggered an interrupt. Once the i2c_master_recv start, the interrupt gpio is driven to idle state until its complete. If the frame is incomplete or data are still available, interrupts will be triggered again. This is the bulk of GPIO changes for v3.15:
- Merged in a branch of irqchip changes from Thomas
Gleixner: we need to have new callbacks from the
irqchip to determine if the GPIO line will be eligible
for IRQs, and this callback must be able to say "no".
After some thinking I got the branch from tglx and
have switched all current users over to use this.
- Based on tglx patches, we have added some generic
irqchip helpers in the gpiolib core. These will
help centralize code when GPIO drivers have simple
chained/cascaded IRQs. Drivers will still define
their irqchip vtables, but the gpiolib core will
take care of irqdomain set-up, mapping from local
offsets to Linux irqs, and reserve resources by
marking the GPIO lines for IRQs.
- Initially the PL061 and Nomadik GPIO/pin control
drivers have been switched over to use the new
gpiochip-to-irqchip infrastructure with more
drivers expected for the next kernel cycle. The
factoring of just two drivers still makes it worth
it so it is already a win.
- A new driver for the Synopsys DesignWare APB GPIO
block.
- Modify the DaVinci GPIO driver to be reusable also
for the new TI Keystone architecture.
- A new driver for the LSI ZEVIO SoCs.
- Delete the obsolte tnetv107x driver.
- Some incremental work on GPIO descriptors: have
gpiod_direction_output() use a logical level,
respecting assertion polarity through ACTIVE_LOW
